A New Century of War

In August, 1914, the world entered the Twentieth Century. In the final summer of the “Belle Epoch,” few could imagine the changes wrought by the assassination of a none-too-important Austro-Hungarian archduke and the four years of unforgivable slaughter that would follow.

The United States entered the war in April, 1917.  Called at the time the Great War, the war to end all wars, World War I did nothing so much as provide a template for killing on an industrial scale, mindless nationalism, and suppression of dissent.  The Twentieth Century goes on.

Our exhibit looks at that Century, 1917 - 2017.  The ramifications of the First World War are endless and varied. Whether political or military, social or economic, entertainment, technology, population, environment, family . . . we look for new and surprising reflections on the world we've been given, the world we've seen flying by, the world we are creating now which is heavily driven by the results of World War I.

Artists are invited to submit existing or new work that represents their insights, views, feelings, or thoughts on the last one hundred years of war and the impact it has had on any aspect of life. As an option for this exhibition, artists can contact PCNJ to explore the possible creation of new original work on paper handmade from U.S. military uniforms by Combat Paper NJ.  Artists interested in discussing this paper option use should contact Walt Nygard at nmwalt@gmail.com or PCNJ at 908-725-2110.

Exhibition Dates: Selected works will be on exhibition in our Main Gallery Oct 18 – Nov 17, 2017

Entry Deadline: Submission of images of work for consideration for this exhibition by Sep 18, 2017
